Baekjeong Korean BBQ LA

We went here for dinner in our first night in LA. Definitely was excited to go here because I had recently just visited the New York one.

In terms of the side dishes, I will say New York had more variety (ie they had the crab cakes). Nonetheless, food was still good. They had the side of eggs that slowly gets cook as you’re eating, which is similar to New York.

The combo we got was the beef combo that serves 4-5 people. It came with the pork kimchi stew that was really really good.

For drinks, got some peach flavored Soju.

So yea, would come back here again. It is recommended to make a reservation ahead of time (although they are strict about your whole party showing up at the same time).

Baekjeong Korean BBQ

Wanted to get some kbbq after after work drinks, and this was close by and highly recommended.

For drinks got Soju with milk. For the main, we got the Hodo’s favorite small combo (which feeds 2, but still was fine for 3 of us), which include beef, short ribs and pork belly. All great food (they also cooked the food for you). As well, the side dishes came with fish cake and broccoli, which is what you want. Also, they had this interesting side dish that we mixed with egg, cheese and corn. Lastly, we did order cold glass noodle soup and kimchi soup. Also all great.

I would go back here in a heart beat.

San Ho Wan

Went to this Michelin star restaurant on a Sunday night. Great KBBQ place.

For drinks, got a plum soju (2nd picture). It wasn’t really sweet at all, Whig was surprising, but good.

We got most of the meats on the menu (wish I paid attention to the ones we didn’t get). For the sauces that come with them, only one I really liked (it was the sweet one. One of them was wayyy too spicey.

Tl;dr, would get everything below again.

Itaewon Pocha

Visited this bar in Korea Town in New York. It is sorta hidden since it is on the second floor of a building, and the stairs to get to it are a bit hidden.

This place has excellent drinks and good. Got a strawberry soju and a whisky sprite (yea, pretty standard). For food, got vegetable dumplings and something called tofu in hell (it’s a sweet spicy sauce). Both great.

Wanted to get some more things that were on the menu, like some sort of traditional rice cake dish or bulgogi dish. I’ll be coming back.

Daeho

We tried this place during their soft opening, and got one of the only things in the menu, which was the Galbijim.

For the Galbijim, we got the braised short ribs and oxtail (regular size). We had one with spicy level 3, and one with spicy level 1. I only tried the spicy level 1 (which was pretty spicy in itself. Next time I’m may get spicy level 0, or 0.5 if they have it). As sides, we also added glass noodles, vegetables, and rice cakes.

To compliment the meal, we also got regular soju.

For the complimentary side dishes, they only have us 3 types, all which I didn’t care for too much.

Overall, I thought this place was great (loved how sweet the sauce is), even if the main dish was $50 each. Next time though I think I would add extra meat for $10.

FYI, galbi jjim means: the first word is the type of meat, while jjim is the way it is cooked (which is steamed).

Jong Ga House

This place was good, but you really need to know what meats to get. Also, if you go during happy hour (after 9PM), it’s only $25 for AYCE

There are two types of short ribs. One was good, and the other was not (need to go back and figure that out). Also, there was a really good beef dish, but unfortunately I don’t know the name either. But the one thing that shouldn’t be ordered (although I didn’t personally try it) is the intestines. Multiple people didn’t like it. Only one person did. (The picture below has the bad short ribs).

The one thing this place is also missing is fish cakes :(.

Also, one final note about this place is that they have this pre-recorded happy birthday sing that goes play almost every 30 minutes (it was interesting the first time, but then got annoying shortly after).

Update 4/6/2019: first thing, they do have fish cakes. But apparently they run out very fast since when I tried to order a second round, they said they were out! Second, the kimchi fried rice is a must. Wow, it’s good. Third, the yogurt soju was actually a bit too sweet. Maybe try the mango or strawberry next time.
