The Parlour Room

We went here on a night we landed in New York City. We were staying near Penn Station, and wanted a place with some seafood, steak, and a full bar. Their whisky selection was awesome (see the pic below).

It is recommended to get a reservation beforehand since it does get full easily (although you can also eat at the bar).

For main courses got the crab dip, the seafood tagliatelle (had shrimp, clams and mussels), and the filet mignon. I would get all of them again.

For drinks, did a Japanese flight (note you can only get 1 flight for your whole visit). They have a cool placemat for the flight glasses (see below), and they tell you the background of each one. Two things that stood out. First is that the Shibui wishing was a pure malt, (which is different from a single malt since that whisky comes from two distilleries, but the families are related). For the Kaiyo whisky, apparently their requirements is that the oak tree is 350 years old (partly due to the fact it is endangered).

I also did get a whisky sour, which was also good.

Oh, and we finished off with a crème brûlée.

Bagatella

Tried this restaurant in the Marina district in San Francisco. Would definitely come back.

First, their bread was really good. It was fresh, and the garlic butter in came with was great.

For drinks got an Aperol Spritz.

For appetizer, got the meatballs and the gnocchi. Both great.

For my main course, got the seafood linguini. Also great, but wished the scallops were the larger ones (they were just bay scallops).

Finished off with key lime pie. No complaints there.

Lobster Place – Chelsea Market

First place I’ve been to in Chelsea Market.

I gotta say, even though they only had cold lobster rolls (I really like the hot ones better), this cold one was really good (the best one so far). Also their New England clam chowder was great (no food poisoning from any of the food!).

Would come back here again.

Ondine

We ate here for our last night at Edinburgh. Would come back here in a heart beat.

First started off with an espresso martini. Not the greatest but would still get it again (told them to remove their custom sugar syrup from the drink, which probably affected the taste). Then got a Cragganmore 12. Slightly peaty, but nit more than an Oban.

For appetizers, got the asparagus with crab meat, and the scallops. Hands down would get all of them again.

For the main, we got the see food platter (warm version). Would get it again as well (but you need a friends to be able to eat the oysters and mussels first you). It came with clams, mussels, crab, lobster, a baby lobster, razor blade clams (which are amazing).

Ended off with a cheesecake. Also really great.

Boston & Maine Fish Company

Tried this place to get a lobster roll in Boston, located at Quincy Market.

The combo also came with clam chowder. I will say the roll was alright (probably wouldn’t get it again here since it wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be. Also seemed like they already added lemon to it, which is something I definitely don’t like). Clam chowder was good.

There are other lobster roll places in Quincy Hall. Would probably try those out next time.

Lisboa Tu & Es

Translated to You and Me Lisbon, this place was a great find. Had lots of local foods, and it’s in Alfama area of Lisbon which I enjoyed.

We had a bunch of (what seems to be local seafood) dishes to share. For alcohol, it’s mainly beer and Sangria only. The local cheap beer around here seems to be called Superbock. The sangria was good, since it seemed to be a bit carbonated.

For food, got the fried chicken (lol which was not fried at all), sardines, this sweet rice with shrimp, fish cake, octopus salad, some other things pictured below (not sure of the name), and pastel de nata.

Would recommend this place and come back in a heart beat (it takes cash only though). Would also order everything again.

Aki Del-Mar Mariscos

We went here for lunch when we got to Nazaré.

The sparkling wine was fairly cheap (and sweet). A 350ml bottle was only 10 euros.

For the main, got the crab and lobster pasta. Honestly, it was pretty good, but I wouldn’t get it again since the lobster was a pain to get the meat out (the shrimp it came with was good, and the lobster was pretty easy).

The Office

We went here for some bites after a 3 hour boat ride, and got drinks as well.

For lunch, got the sea bass with vegetables. It was pretty good. For drinks, got a pina colada.

The vibe of the restaurant was fairly nice since it was right in front of the beach (and you could easily bar hop to other eateries beside it). Would come back to it, and also would check out the other eateries around.

Restaurante Casa Benigna

On our second night in Madrid we wanted to eat at a great paella place, and we did!

This place is rated 4.5 on Google, and usually requires a reservation. Fortunately, they did let us in (although the door was locked when we got there).

The place was a bit fancy, but still let us in with shirts and shorts. For drinks, got a white wine that was a tad bit sweet (supposedly pairs great with the paella we ordered).

To start, they gave us some vegetable sticks / fruit sticks, as well as bread with butter that felt and tasted like cheese (soooo good). Also served a cold tomato soup called Gazpacho. Also great!

To start, got the tomato salad. Great way to start a meal by eating healthy.

For the main paella, got the seafood paella and a chicken and pork paella. Both were great, but I liked the seafood one better (others in the group found the other paella better).

For desert, got the apple pie (which almost seemed like an inverted apple pie). Also great! They also gave us complimentary melted chocolate and cookies.

Would come back here again in a heart beat.

Taverna Kyclades

A great Greek place at the east side of New York.

Got the octopus to share for appetizers (by far the best Octopus I have eaten). Then got the Seafood pasta (basically an awesome seafood linguini as pictured below).
