Pazzo Notte

Great Italian place at the south side of Central Park.

Ordered an espresso martini to start (which they had a two for one special). Would say it’s the best espresso martini I’ve ever had.

For my main, got a penne vodka pasta with chicken. Solid call. We also had a side of mozzarella sticks (didn’t like how they made them though). Would definitely come back here.

Carbone

This restaurant was recommended by a friend’s friend as a good Italian restaurant, and he was very correct.

Got a mai tai for a drink (seemed pretty standard).

For appetizers, got several vegetable apps (they were good, but would probably do a meat dish if I wasn’t with a vegetarian). One was the eggplant and zucchini scalene.

They also served bread. One was similar to a pizza bread that I really enjoyed.

For the main, I split a veal parmesan (first time I’ve had that with veal) and a 12 layer white lasagna with a friend (each pasta layer was thinly sliced, that it reminded me more of a flat noodle). Both were amazing.

Also sampled the spicy rigatoni vodka. A great choice!

Only down side with the experience is that we had to sit outside (inside was fully booked). If it were a warmer day, it would have been perfect.

Alviz

We found this restaurant by basically following our noses. The smell from the outside was of really good pizza.

When we got to the restaurant, they took us to the back where there was garden seating.

I got tagliatelle with beef (in some sort of mushroom sauce). It was really good. Also paired it with Prosecco, and have to admit the Prosecco here is also really good (there’s a hint of sweetness to it, and it isn’t too bitter. Definitely would come back here again.

PS. Also tried my friend’s mushroom chicken and grilled zucchini, and they did not disappoint.

Restaurant Mizerola

We found this restaurant walking around Hvar at night. Most restaurants were busy, and this one had space. Overall a great find.

I got a pizza (mushroom, salami, cheese), and for drinks got a wine from Hvar (called global wine). The pizza was good, and the wine was ok. Would come here again, but would also try other places in the area.

Caramba

Great Italian restaurant. Although a sit down restaurant, it had really chill waiters and staff.

Started off the an espresso martini. Man was it the best espresso martini I’ve ever had! Got a lemon drop for my second drink.

For apps, we got bread and patatas bravas. Both great.

For my mains, had the French onion soup and the seafood linguini. Both excellent choices.

Mega Bites

Checked out this pizza place after a long night of drinking in Vancouver (Yaletown).

Grabbed a pepperoni slice and a meat lover slice. Both were great, and reminded me of Pizza Hut (even the greasiness).

Marta

Checked out this Italian in hopes of eating some pasta. However, there was no pasta. Still a good place to eat.

We got the scallops for appetizers. Great choice. For my main, got the chicken. It was cooked perfectly (not dry at all). Also got the potatoes on the side.

For wine, I got something called the montecheubbsgd… (it was a black cherry type flavor). Thought it was interestingly light (but Ben said it’s because it doesn’t taste acidic.

Amici

A great Italian restaurant, with good food and a proper Italian atmosphere.

For the main course, I got the Ravioli di Aragosta (lobster and stuffed). Definitely happy with the meal.

For the desert, I got a crepe with ice cream. Also really good.

Phillmore Gelato

Great gelato place that I would definitely go back to.

As the name should imply, it is on Fillmore street in Japan town.

I got the hazelnut flavor, which was simply amazing and rich.

I asked the owner what the difference is between ice cream and gelato. Apparently there are 3 differences:

-gelato has less cream, therefore less calories

-the way gelato is churned, there is less air than ice cream , therefore it is more dense

-gelato is served at a higher temperature than ice cream, so when you eat it it is less cold, and you can taste more of the flavor

Allegro

After a long night of partying, Eric and I went to this place to grab a decent bite to eat.

We ordered a couple of appetizers and old fashioned a, all of which were great. For the apps, we got the meatballs, fries, and a margherita pizza.
