Marbl

So we tried this place on Boxing Day since it was the one of the only places open for dinner. And man, I definitely am glad we went here.

We ended up ordering the Marbl share platter, which included a 48oz steak, lamb, scallops, shrimps, potatoes, broccoli with cheese, and fries. Everything tasted great (and I didn’t even mind the lamb). Drink we’re also great (but not sure what I ordered).

Founder Bar

We had some quick drinks at this place before heading out to see Arty at Union in Toronto.

I only had one drink (not sure what it was, but it was good enough for me to want to remember this place by posting about it on this blog).

The Striped Pig

Ended up here on a Friday night. We ordered 4 dishes between two people, which was enough. Overall, the dishes were pretty good, but the portion size was a bit small for the price. However, I’d still come back and order all of the same dishes.

For drinks, I got the Nonna’s Kiss (which was very tasty and sweet, and I like how the texture was a bit foamy/smoothy like), and the midnight fog (it was a tad bit too sweet, but I’d still get it again).

For the dishes, we got the wings (chicken was surprisingly not dry for wings, and the side sauce was good), the summer salad, the spinach dip, and the flat iron steak (got this one medium, which was the right decision).

Martins West Gastropub

Straight off, I thought the food and the drinks were really great. The food portions is a bit small for the price, but still I was very satisfied.

For drinks I got a martini (not sure of the name, but it had grapefruit, and it it was still very sweet), and something called a new fashion (a sweet twist to an old fashion. It had some Apple liqueur in it).

For food, we got one appetizer, and three shareable plates. The appetizer was wings (which without the sauce, I thought they were cooked really good, not dry at all). The shareables were an octopus salad (also cooked just right), Mac and cheese, and pork belly toast.

Pacific Cocktail Haven

This place was great! The drinks were good for the most part, and I would definitely come back. All the cocktails were $14. (In terms of atmosphere though, for a tiki bar, it is a bit under decorated).

I started off with the tuk tuk tea. According to mark, it reminded him of Thai iced tea. Initially I though it was meh, but mixing the drink is key. After mixing it, it tasted amazing.

After, I tried the pornstar martini. It was pretty good (it also came with a side shot of vodka, which I basically poured little by little into the drink as a drank it).

The last drink I got was the miso old fashioned. It was alright, and I could get it again. However, I did think it tasted a bit watered down.

Other drinks I tried (no pics) were the Ko’olina swizzle. This drink was great, and I would definitely order it again. I also tried the banana stand, and that was pretty gross (it was wayyy to sweet, which is saying something since I usually like sweet drinks).

The Chandelier

This is actually a lounge in the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. It’s basically like your in a chandelier.

The famous drink you get here is the verbatom (spelling?). I had it before, and it’s interesting. You’re supposed to chew on this flower. The flower is numbing (although I’m not sure about the taste, since I did not have it on this trip.

So, I got a drink called happiness forgets “something” (not entirely sure what it’s called). It was pretty good.

The other drink I got, a glitch in the matrix, was wayyyy to sweeet and gross (and I it’s not pictures for many reasons).

Adding to this post since we came back here the next day, and I got the natural selection and a lychee martini. Both were good. The natural selection was a bit like a pina colada.

Pagan Idol

This tiki bar is one of my favorite random bars in SF because of the layout, and the environment/mood/setting. I didn’t take any pictures of the inside, but I think it’s pretty unique.

For drink, I got a Pina Colada (too be honest, they put too much rum, which affected the taste negatively. Next time I’m gonna try their strawberry daiquiri).

To share, we got this fire drink (not sure what it’s called, it it was pretty good. It tasted slightly like a Bloody Mary since it has some pepper in it).

Edit (5/11/2018): tried the banana bliss, and it was also pretty good (and strong).

Smuggler’s Cove

We ended up trying all 3 “sharing” drinks. One was called volcano, and another one was called Eureka (I don’t remember what the 3rd one was called).

From the 3 drinks, Eureka tasted the best (it had a similar flavor to Coca Cola, with the taste of alcohol). The volcano was ok, but reminded me of a margarita (it’s pictured below, but the other 2 looked quite similar).

Each drink was $45, and typically serves 2-4 people.
