Savor Thai

Went to this pretty upscale Thai restaurant in Toronto (more northern part, like St Clair W).

For food, we ended up getting a fixed course. None of it was pad Thai, but definitely there were hints of the Thai curry flavor in a lot of the food.

Also, drink presentations were interesting. There was a traditional smoked presentation in a covered class, but also one drink came in an aquarium.

Mott 32

This place was in our hotel, Shangri La, in Toronto.

Went here from happy hour (4pm to 6pm), which drinks and dim sum were half price.

We got one order of Hargreaves, and 1 order of some dumpling dish. Both were great.

For drinks doubled down on the Nashi (vodka based, and 2oz pour). Great choice.

FYI didn’t take either picture below.

Civil Works (at Waterworks Food Hall)

We visited this place for after dinner drinks. I liked the loungey vibe.

Ordered a whisky based cocktail, and their version of an espresso martini. They also had Jell-O shots ( it base alcohol was furnet…which was actually ok!).

Also the food hall downstairs would be good to visit during the day (a range of various cuisines, and I like the modern industrial look)

The Standard Biergarten

We pregamed here before going to a day EDM event on. Saturday afternoon.

Normally I wouldn’t really care for Biergartens, but I would say I liked this one. The people, the vibe, and the drinks were good.

For drinks, I didn’t get any beer, but instead did an Aperol spritz. For food, got the Mac and cheese balls. That was great. Also tried the pretzel, which was a good snack.

One other thing we did was do a ski-shooter with Jameson. That was fun.

Note: next time don’t buy so many drink tickets since they can only be used for beer and food (like only get 2 or 3 next time, not 6). Also might be interested to try their actual restaurant next time (called The Standard).

Ruby Soho

Mentioning this place even though I didn’t take any pictures (photo attached isn’t mine) since apparently it’s a great place for drinking and for Toronto finance bros to make deals. Need to check it out again next time (but maybe right after a work day).

Aside from whisky, also got the nachos here (probably would want to get something else other than the nachos next time).

Charlemagne

A friend took me to this speakeasy in King West Toronto. He said they have the best espresso martini, and he was not wrong (I didn’t even ask for it without sweetener).

To get to it, you need to go to Cafe Renee, and go through the unmarked black door on the second floor.

Please Don’t Tell

A friend booked this speakeasy for his birthday (they had two separate reservations to fit our group of 12).

To get in, there’s a telephone booth inside the Crif Dogs restaurant. At the telephone booth, dial 1 and you’re good to go.

The place had great drinks. Not entirely sure which drinks I got, but of course it was whiskey or vodka based.

They also had food (got one of the hotdogs. Would get it again, but without the mustard next time).

Bar Bonobo

Tried this place for after work drinks. I like the loungey type vibe, but will say I would try and get another drink than the one I ordered. I ordered an espresso martini without the sweetener (and it was not that good). There were other cocktails that seemed interesting for next time.

Versa

This is an indoor rooftop / restaurant.

We stopped by this place after work for drinks and a quick / light dinner. Got a version of an Aperol spritz, except it was also strawberry infused. I liked it.

For food for their ribs and pork bao bun. Both were great.

Only thing I’d change for next time is for us to try and sit in the outside rooftop portion, and not in the dining area (they ran out of space in the outside portion).

Kost

So this rooftop was on top of the hotel I was staying at (The Bisha Hotel). Got breakfast and dinner (plus drinks).

For breakfast (which $60 per day was covered by the hotel since I booked through Amex), got their breakfast special. I will say the scrambled eggs were a bit more runny than I wanted, so I would get it again, but tell them to make it less runny.

For dinner + drinks, got an expresso martini which was great (asked them to put no sweetener / simple syrup). Also got macallan 12 (actually got a bunch of them because at the time, the LCBO was on strike!). For dinner just got the bread plate and tacos (tried both the beef and chicken). Will say that I would probably try something else instead of the tacos next time.

Also, as you can see from below the rooftop view was great. So will be coming back.
