We stopped by this really awesome / interesting rooftop bar near Chelsea / meat packing district. It had 3 main floors. Lowest one was just the bathrooms (that had bird sounds, and you could change into swimming gear). The second floor has a dancing area, plus a pool! The rooftop had a great view of the city and Jersey. Also had a bunch of seating / lounging area. Would definitely go back. Music was also pretty chill (deepish), and people there were pretty attractive 🙂
The William
Went to this place for some fancy drinks in New York City.
The one thing about this place is that it’s small, so getting a reservation ahead of time is recommended. We were, however, able to put our name down (for 3, and sitting at the bar), and waited for 1.5 hours (but waited at Park Avenue Tavern, which was close by).
For drinks, got something called Bad Love (very similar to an old fashion), and also tried the Tuna tar tar. The drink was good. The tuna though was not super fresh.
Park Avenue Tavern
Went to this bar for Tuesday night drinks.
This place is a restaurant, but also a classy bar. They made decent espresso martinis, and also got several whisky sodas. Would come here again for drinks after work. Also, noticed some people at the bar were alone. Might be a good place to meet new people. Also would be curious about this place for dinner.
Itaewon Pocha
Visited this bar in Korea Town in New York. It is sorta hidden since it is on the second floor of a building, and the stairs to get to it are a bit hidden.
This place has excellent drinks and good. Got a strawberry soju and a whisky sprite (yea, pretty standard). For food, got vegetable dumplings and something called tofu in hell (it’s a sweet spicy sauce). Both great.
Wanted to get some more things that were on the menu, like some sort of traditional rice cake dish or bulgogi dish. I’ll be coming back.
Loca Villa
Got afternoon drinks here with some friends we met at the festival. Service was really shitty, but the Pina Colada was good.
Ponds Hilo
We had a late lunch for our trip to Hilo, and fortunately this place was still open.
For drinks, had a Big Island Coffee (Kalua, macadamia nut liquor, creme de cocoa, baileys, and coffee). Also has a lychee rum martini. Both drink were great, and what I wanted 🙂
For the appetizer and starter, I had the clam chowder and see fried calamari. I thought the chowder was a bit too salty, and the calamari was too fried. Didn’t hate either of them though.
For the main course, I got the mandarin bbq pork ribs, with a side of pesto pasta. I enjoyed the ribs. The pasta tastes good, but I think the crushed nuts texture was a little weird (but like I said, tastes was good).
Lastly, thought the view in this restaurant was great.
Royal Kona Hotel Bar (Don the Beachcomber)
I was told this was an excellent place to watch a sunset while drinking a pina colada. I would have to say this is very true (although our sunset had some clouds covering it).
I ordered a banana lava flow and a mango lava flow (a lava flow is basically a flavored pina colada). Both were good, but the mango one was less sweet, so I thought it tasted the best.
The food at this place is meh. The coconut breaded shrimp was not that good. The poke chips were ok.
On the Rocks
Went to this outside bar for the food primarily, and then for the food.
For food, got the spicy poke on nachos. The nachos was a wonton based chip, and I thought it was a really good combo. However, the chips are a bit greasy, so didn’t finish the whole things. For drinks, got a mai tai, which I thought was good too.
Update: on 11/27/2020, went to this place again for lunch (as most places are closed for the Thanksgiving). Ordered the mai tai and lava flow. Both great drinks that got me really buzzed after drinking both. I also ordered the pulled pork nachos, which I would say are ok, but not the best.
Humpy’s Big Island Alehous
We went to this place originally to grab a bite, but instead just had a drink because we wanted to pivot to somewhere else.
I grabbed a pina colada, and yea, definitely up to my standards.
Island Lava Java
This place is right in the heart of town in Holualoa, with a really great view.
I got the Mai Tai for a drink (which is pretty good after you stir the drink since it is layered).
For the main course, I had a very Hawaiian omelet, which was a pulled pork omelet with sausage and potatoes. It was really good (I finished most of it).
