China Sichuan Restaurant – Zeedijk

Second dinner in Amsterdam, where we met up with a few folks also traveling here.

For drinks, they had a limited selection (got Jameson on the rocks).

For food, most of it was spicy (could handle at most 2 out of 3 chili scores).

We got the spicy chicken, spicy green beans, 2 dumpling dishes, a spicy beef dish, and a spicy fish dish. All of it I would order again, but really like the fish (and dumplings were just ok).

Dumpling Home

Great place to eat in Hayes Valley. Coming at 7:46 on a Friday is a good time, as putting your name down on the waitlist only yielded a 30 minute wait (you can grab drinks somewhere else while waiting).

For drinks, only beer and wine, so got a Prosecco.

For food, best thing on there was the juicy pork bao (first picture). Would get that again many times over.

Second best was the XLB with crab and pork. Usually I don’t like XLB, but this is definitely an exception.

The pork dumpling sesame sauce chili oil was pretty good (had a peanut taste). Also got kelp (seaweed) salad. I was indifferent (would get it again for vegetable).

The least favorite dish was the noodle with braised beef. It had a weird broth flavor. Would get something else.

Overall definitely coming back.

Hangari Kalguksu

Definitely would come back here! Not the typical Korean food I order, but I would order everything we got again.

We first ordered their signature dish, the Hangari Bossam (the pork belly it came with was very tender… you’re supposed to eat it with the veggies acting like a sandwich).

We also ordered the Chicken Kal Guk Su. Chicken was ok, but really liked the broth and udon noodles that were in it.

We also got a side of dumplings, which were also great.

Real Kung Fu Little Steamed Buns Ramen

We popped into this place before catching a show on Broadway that was at 7pm. Service here was fast, and we were out within an hour.

We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. The only dish I wouldn’t get again from below is the “Ramen” (I would barely call that dish a ramen… it was basically noodles and beef in soup). Everything else was great (although the Michelin recommended bun didn’t seem too special, but I would get it again).

Dumpling Time

Great dim sum place that also serves beer on tap. I got my Asian beer of choice, Sapporo.

For ordering, we ordered the usuals (hargow, sui Mai), pork XLB (soup dumpling), pork gyoza, and a couple of other things (pictured below). Everything was great BUT the picture that has the straw with the giant dumpling (called the King Dum). I didn’t like it because of the effort to eat it.

Shangri-La Vegetarian Restaurant

A vegetarian friend was visiting, and we were hungry, so we decided to try this place out.

We got the hot and sour soup, crispy chow main, vegetarian spring rolls, some “beef” dish, vegetarian dumplings, and some “tofu” dish. I would get everything again but the chow main (and possibly not get the tofu dish as it was a bit salty for my taste).
